Handcrafted Batik Art

Hmong Batik is deeply rooted in tradition. Unaffected by modern technology, these intricate products are handcrafted and require an involved and complex process. On average, one product takes two weeks to complete. Each piece designed is an expression of the consistent, year-round artistic and agricultural labor of the Hmong craftspeople.

Environmentally Sustainable Art

Batik art is innately harmonious with the natural environment. From the raw materials to the processing and designing, every piece maintains a complete ecological chain. Every material used to create these traditional works comes from nature, has a regenerative quality, and represents the closest connection between nature and humanity.

A reflection of life and spirituality

Sia took us to the Paimo Village which is hidden in the mountains in Guizhou and where Hmong Batik originates from. We then created our own Batik “masterpieces”, the Hmong villagers and artists walked us through the stages of their creations. This was incredibly interesting to see from designing, drawing and dying the material with indigo dye. The Hmong villagers live a humble and quiet life, hidden away in the mountains and we would never had experienced it if we hadn’t met Sia. Sia works so closely with her artists, despite the language barrier, she knows every one of them and truly cares for them and their beautiful work. It is a memory we will cherish forever about our travels around China and now we have our stunning Batik table runner to remind us of our special time with the Hmong villagers.
